Jakarta – After the peak of the coronavirus pandemic, the younger generation tends to look for vacation destinations that are closer to home. This has boosted the popularity of domestic tourist destinations, said Senior Public Relations Manager of tiket.com, Sandra Darmosumarto.
“Because of the pandemic, people like to go on holidays close to their homes. More people are on staycations, there used to be a trend for the term ‘Work from Bali’ that is still happening today. Even after this pandemic, Bali is still a favorite tourist destination for the millennial generation,” said Sandra.
Apart from Bali, other cities that see an increasing tourist visit are Bandung, Yogyakarta, and Belitung. And apparently, two of the five super priority tourism destinations (DPSP) prepared by the government are also included as quite the top choices, namely Mandalika and Labuan Bajo.
“In tourist spots, these young tourists are not only on vacation, but they dedicate their time to their hobbies. For example, cycling and meditating,” said Sandra.
Public Policy and Government Relations of TikTok Indonesia, Agung Pamungkas, said that his company also saw that the Indonesians, especially the younger generation, often create unique tourism content such as revealing “hidden gems”.
Thus, it is not surprising that in the end, many new tourist destinations in the country were revealed and eventually became the people’s choice for a vacation.
“So when it comes to tourism content, in addition to typical culinary recommendations, content creators also often share new travel recommendations, which we know as ‘hidden gems’. So with these recommendations, people have more choices and are happy with tourism in Indonesia,” he said.
